Ireland: Best destination in Europe
Ireland was named Europe’s Best Destination for the seventh year in a row at the Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards 2020.
By being named Travel Weekly Readers Choice 2020 for the best destination in Europe, Ireland edged out England, France, Greece, Italy and Spain.
Niall Gibbons, Managing Director of Tourism Ireland, noted he and his team were “delighted” that Ireland was honored for the seventh consecutive year.
âAt the end of what has been a devastating year for travel and tourism, this accolade is welcome news.
âOur hearts are with all of those people engaged in hospitality at this time,â Gibbons said, adding: âWhile we face immense uncertainty right now, hope is looming on the horizon in the form vaccines.
“We look forward to a more positive and prosperous year in 2021 and accolades like this really help keep Ireland in the spotlight for the right reasons.”

The 18th Annual Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards were announced at a virtual event on December 17th. Before announcing this year’s winners, Travel Weekly noted, âAlthough travel was curtailed by the pandemic for much of 2020, the winners operated for part of the year (and some operations continue all the way). long), as well as the months of 2019 that occurred after votes were cast for last year’s awards.
Travel Weekly Editor-in-Chief Arnie Weissmann said: âIt may have seemed to consumers that travel is on hold in 2020, but the industry was very active and focused on making travel safer for today. today and for the future.
